CITAZIONE
The story of young Mary Queen of Scots is coming to an end. The upcoming fourth season of the CW’s costume drama Reign will be its last. The CW brass have made the decision and have informed the series’ producers.
Reign, from CBS TV Studios, is in production. The cancellation news comes just as the series is starting filming the Season 4 finale. That is the same timing as the CW’s decision to end 90210 three years ago. However, in the case of Reign, I hear that the call did not come out of the blue. I hear the network and the producers had been having conversations that Season 4 may be the last, so the writers had been crafting this as a possible final chapter. Word is that they are prepared to shoot a series closer, and the show will be able to give fans a conclusion to the story of Mary Queen of Scots, which was not the case with 90210.
The 16-episode final fourth season of Reign premieres on Feb 10, with the period drama occupying the Friday 9 PM slot. Its last episode is expected to air in June.
Reign is one of two female-centered CW dramas certain to end this season, along with The Vampire Diaries. Created by Laurie McCarthy and Stephanie SenGupta, Reign stars Adelaide Kane as Mary, Queen of Scots.

Tutti i siti che ho visitato mi dicono la stessa notizia: Reign finirà con la Season 4, anche perché hanno già castato Darnaley, Riccio e Bothwell:

qui

CITAZIONE
“Reign” will no longer be reigning over the CW — after next season, that is.
Sources tell Variety that Season 4 of the historical fantasy series, which begins in Feb. 2017, will be its last.
The fourth season is currently still in production, so the team behind “Reign” will be able to work on a series finale, knowing that it will be the final episode, giving fans a real conclusion to the story of Mary Queen of Scots. Insiders say that conversations about the show’s possible ending have been ongoing with producers, so the decision to make this season the last were not totally unexpected.
“Reign” follows the early days of Mary Queen of Scots, who is played by Adelaide Kane. The cast is rounded out by Megan Follows, Torrance Coombs, Toby Regbo, Celina Sinden and Anna Popplewell.
The show, created by Stephanie Sengupta and Laurie McCarthy, premiered in the 2013-2014 season.
“Reign” wasn’t exactly a ratings powerhouse, even at the beginning of its run: Season 1 began with a 0.8 rating in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic but ended with a 0.4, while the total audience slipped from just under 2 million to 1.24 million. By the end of Season 3, it was averaging around a 0.3 in the demo and under 1 million viewers in Nielsen’s live-same-day ratings.
Season 4 of “Reign” will consist of 16 episodes, so the series finale is tentatively slated for sometime in June. The final season kicks off on Friday, Feb. 10 at 9 p.m.

CITAZIONE
Mary’s reign may be almost over, but this queen is going out with her head held high.
The CW announced yesterday that Reign is ending after the royal drama’s upcoming fourth season. That will draw a curtain on the story of Mary, Queen of Scots (Adelaide Kane), who started out as a young woman on the verge of marrying into the French royal family. Over the course of three seasons, Mary wed Francis (Toby Regbo), mourned his death, and moved back to Scotland to take her rightful throne. Season 4 is currently in production, giving Reign’s writing team a chance to wrap up the series, despite the cancellation. “It’s something we’ve been talking about for a long time, even from beginning of the plotting of this season,” co-creator Laurie McCarthy tells Yahoo TV. “We were aware that it might be our final season.” She hopes fans will “find the end really moving and really satisfying.”
Last time we saw Mary, she was hard at work uniting Scotland under her rule and at odds with her cousin, Queen Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten). As history buffs know, the real Mary eventually was beheaded at the age of 45 under the order of Elizabeth. So will Reign’s end line up with history? “We talked about where we wanted to end Mary’s life and our current version of a younger queen, knowing that she doesn’t really die until she’s in her 40s,” McCarthy explains. “But luckily for us, and unluckily for the real Mary, Queen of Scots, the moves that she makes at this juncture this season really do position her for where she ends up, which is a kind of fearless demise.”
Those moves include a second marriage to Lord Darnley (Will Kemp), with whom she eventually has a child (the future King James VI). “It was designed as a political marriage, but it becomes a tumultuous marriage,” McCarthy notes. “Ultimately, there were things that she had to do to manage her husband, who was very much someone grasping for power.” Through three seasons, Mary has had to face some tough choices; she’ll have even more coming her way. And though the real Mary’s ending was tragic, this season will just show “a really fierce and proactive queen.”
“The picture that we’re painting of Mary, Queen of Scots, is somebody who didn’t necessarily make a mistake,” McCarthy says. “She really befell the slings and arrows that are cast at a woman in power.”
The 16-episode final season of Reign premieres Feb. 10 at 9 p.m. on The CW.

:alienff:
